Videotape and how to look after it.

In the late 1950's recording moving images on to magnetic tape became a reality and since then video has been a powerful way for recording all sorts of
occasions. From family events to TV programs and world news. Despite its flexibility of use videotape is in fact a delicate medium and susceptible to damage and deterioration.
This is of course why we suggest having your video transferred to DVD. Put simply videotape is a sandwich of layers. A layer of metal oxide, where the actual information is stored. A binding layer and polyester layer that carries and holds together the whole thing. As we know only too well, overtime these layers can irreversibly deteriorate due to dust, heat and general poor storage.

How can I help preserve my tapes? Store them at a constant temperature and avoid extremes of temperature and humidity. Also keep them in there dust cases.
